Florida Gulf Coast University is an affiliate of the Earth Charter, which is a declaration of fundamental principles that seek to inspire a new sense of global interdependence and shared responsibility for the well being of Earth’s inhabitants. It is a product of a decade-long, worldwide, cross cultural dialogue on common goals and shared values that encompasses FGCU’s mission.
“Living the Earth Charter” is an interdisciplinary studies course that has students use contemplative practices to examine ways of applying the principles of the Earth Charter both personally and communally. This website is designed to showcase the artistic responses of students to the Earth Charter. In a semester, individuals learn about the vision, ethics and action that can be achieved for a just, sustainable and peaceful world by using principles of the Earth Charter. Paintings, photographs, mixed media, poetry, creative writing, dances, music and multimedia projects were created to express interpretations of the charter and artwork is displayed throughout the year in building AB7.
